PM Surya Ghar Yojana — Solar Subsidy Guide for Himachal Pradesh

The Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana is the central government’s flagship rooftop solar scheme, offering direct bank-transfer subsidies to households that install rooftop solar — plus up to 300 units of free electricity per month once the system is running. STATE Solar handles the entire registration and subsidy process for customers across Himachal Pradesh.

How Much Subsidy Can You Get?

System SizeCentral Subsidy
1 kW₹30,000
2 kW₹60,000
3 kW or above₹78,000 (capped)

The subsidy is paid directly to your bank account after installation and DISCOM inspection — not to the vendor — which protects you from overcharging.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Indian residential electricity consumer
  • Property with a suitable rooftop for solar installation
  • Sanctioned electricity load of 10 kW or below
  • No prior solar subsidy already claimed on the same property
  • Installation must be done by an MNRE-empanelled/portal-registered vendor using ALMM-approved panels

How to Apply — Step by Step

  1. Register on the official portal, pmsuryaghar.gov.in, using your state, DISCOM, and electricity consumer number
  2. Complete OTP verification and submit your application with proposed system size
  3. Choose an MNRE-empanelled vendor from the portal’s district list — we’re happy to assist here
  4. Installation and DISCOM site inspection
  5. Net meter installation
  6. Subsidy credited to your bank account, typically within 15–30 working days of the commissioning certificate

Himachal Pradesh–Specific Benefits

Beyond the central subsidy, Himachal Pradesh residents benefit from:

  • Net metering via HIMURJA (Himachal Pradesh Energy Development Agency), with surplus power compensated at approximately 50% of the applicable tariff — confirm current rate with HIMURJA before finalizing
  • HP’s status as a special-category state, which brings enhanced subsidy rates (up to 50%) for certain off-grid/pump applications
  • State-level push toward becoming a “Green Energy State,” which continues to bring new incentives — we track these and will flag anything new you’re eligible for

(Note: state-level incentive figures change more often than central ones. Verify current HIMURJA rates before publishing exact numbers, and consider adding “rates subject to change — confirm with us for the latest figures” wherever a specific state figure appears.)

Common Reasons Applications Get Rejected

  • Using a non-empanelled vendor or non-ALMM-approved panels
  • Applying for a system size well above your sanctioned load
  • Name mismatch between electricity bill and Aadhaar
  • Missing net metering application within the required window

We help customers avoid all of these by managing the paperwork end-to-end.
